How to Claim and Configure Your Free Subdomain on LovieMe

Ready to launch your side project, portfolio, or API to production? Follow this complete developer walkthrough to claim your LovieMe subdomain and connect it to your hosting infrastructure.

LovieMe gives you full authoritative control over your claimed prefix. Here is everything you need to know to configure DNS and email routing.

📍 Step 1: Claim Your Subdomain Prefix

  1. Sign in to the LovieMe Dashboard at lovie.me/dashboard.
  2. Enter your desired prefix into the search bar (e.g., myapp).
  3. Our real-time validator will immediately verify that the name is available.
  4. Click Claim Subdomain. The subdomain is instantly allocated to your user account and protected by Row-Level Security.

Tip: Free Community accounts can maintain up to 3 active subdomains simultaneously. If you need more for open-source projects or startups, apply for our Builder Grants.

🌐 Step 2: Pointing Your Subdomain to Hosting Providers

Once your prefix is claimed, open the DNS Records tab on your subdomain card to manage your zone.

Option A: Connecting to Vercel

  1. In your Vercel project, go to Settings → Domains and add myapp.lovie.me.
  2. In your LovieMe DNS manager, create a new record:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: @
    • Content: cname.vercel-dns.com
    • TTL: 3600
  3. Vercel automatically validates the record and provisions a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate within 60 seconds.

Option B: Connecting to GitHub Pages

  1. In your repository, go to Settings → Pages → Custom domain.
  2. Enter myapp.lovie.me and click Save.
  3. In LovieMe, add:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: @
    • Content: <your-github-username>.github.io
    • TTL: 3600
  4. Check Enforce HTTPS in GitHub Pages once the DNS check passes.

Option C: Connecting to Cloudflare Pages

  1. In Cloudflare Pages, go to Custom domains → Set up a custom domain.
  2. Enter myapp.lovie.me.
  3. In LovieMe, configure:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: @
    • Content: <your-project>.pages.dev
    • TTL: 3600

Option D: Pointing to a Custom VPS (Nginx, Docker, Caddy)

If you run your own server on Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Linode, or AWS:

  • Type: A
  • Name: @
  • Content: 203.0.113.195 (your server's public IPv4)
  • TTL: 3600

📧 Step 3: 1-Click Email Setup & Presets

Never expose your personal email or pay for expensive mailbox hosting:

  1. Click the Email Setup button next to your subdomain in the LovieMe dashboard.
  2. Select ImprovMX (or ForwardEmail.net / Zoho Mail).
  3. Click Apply Preset — all required MX and SPF TXT records are automatically published to Anycast DNS in under 2 seconds.
  4. Open the provider's free website, enter myapp.lovie.me, and enter your personal email (e.g., you@gmail.com).

Now, whenever anyone sends an email to hello@myapp.lovie.me, it forwards straight to your personal Gmail inbox!

🔍 Step 4: Verifying Propagation from the Terminal

You can verify that your records are active globally using dig or nslookup:

# Query CNAME record
dig +short CNAME myapp.lovie.me

# Query A record
dig +short A myapp.lovie.me

# Query using Cloudflare DNS resolver directly
dig @1.1.1.1 myapp.lovie.me

With Gcore Anycast edge nodes, updates propagate across global nameservers in under 2 seconds.
